March 14 evening update on Edwardsville Response

March 14, 2022

Monday, March 14, 2022 at 6 p.m. CDT

  • Crews are continuing their work Monday evening, removing crude oil from the Cahokia diversion channel. Boom has been deployed at several locations along the channel to contain the crude and will remain in place for an extended period of time. Boats are being used on the channel to assist in the retrieval of oil from the water.
  • The updated estimate is that approximately 3,900 barrels has been released. As of Monday, March 14, at 4 p.m. Central Time, approximately 7,100 barrels of water and oil mixture has been recovered from the Cahokia diversion channel. Approximately 150 cubic yards of oily soil has been removed for proper disposal.
  • Federal agencies are conducting the investigation to determine the cause of the release.
  • The top priorities of the Edwardsville Response are to ensure the safety of responders, the community and to limit environmental impact as we respond to the release and conduct cleanup activities.
